Loi special 2 by Uinn Loi special 2 by Uinn
The characters doing the presentation are Sash (left) and Sesh (right)

Precisions about my nagas this time.

I have seen some people draw naga bodies arching off the ground for no apparent reason, it has always confused me

I have drawn some of my nagas in the standing position before, it was a mistake. This limitation gives them a slight inferiority complex in spite of all the natural weapons they have.

------

All drawn working side by side with Iksumi this week!

I've always circumvented the whole 'ouch' bit of remaining standing by having my Nagas lean slightly backwards so that they can counterbalance their bulky human torsos, as well as have reinforced vertebrae along their entire spine. This is interesting, though!

Yes, exactly! I agree that an all-the-time standing naga could work, but needs special adaptations in their skeleton and muscles.
I know the nagas in my story don't have those adaptations, so this is how they make it work.

Very unique. I like this idea a lot, to be completely honest, it gives a new topic to discuss and opens more doors.

Honestly, my 'sona shouldn't be able to breathe on land because he's an anaconda and very heavy, but I've worked around that by giving him thicker, more supportive muscles and ribs, because he can't swim, funnily enough.

I don't understand why you say he shouldn't be able to breathe on land. Snakes have lungs, they all breathe air...

Anacondas are very thick and heavy. Particularly large specimens would suffocate under their own weight if not buoyed by a particular amount of water.

They're kind of like whales in that sense, really. Whales would be able to live out of water if they weren't so heavy.

This is very well done, and is very informative. I'll use this for a reference on when I draw my naga boy and his sons next time. The anatomy is great.

Damn, I always absolutely adore the amount of thought and work you put behind your species development--biology at work, hahahah! It gives me a lot to keep in mind with when I think of Iris too, so thank you, hope you don't mind if I take quite a few lessons from your bio knowledge!
I've always really really loved the way you draw nagas (and all the other creatures of Loi, of course, they do much more interesting things with their serpent halves and they look so much more realistic this way. Wonderful stuff!

Thank you! :D
Of course! Bio knowledge is there to be shared! ;p
Another thing that I often see people drawing and annoys me, is nagas grabbing things with the tip of their tails v_v
People want half snake characters, but don't use the snake part as much as they could...

Hahahahah, very true!
Hmm, if I can ask though, do you think piercings near the tip of the tail would be alright, or would that just be a bad idea? xD It seems implausible to give a naga piercings anywhere else along their snake halves, but maybe near the tips...?

Hmmm... The tail tip drags on the ground a lot, so a bad idea would be anything that risks getting caught in their environment, like rings. But I guess simple studs would work :)

Hmmmmmmm, very true, true. But living in an urban environment, perhaps...? Who knows. Studs are probably the safest bet, though. xD

Very interesting! Your nagas are different... they are more physically feasible than how they are normally portrayed. I like that. You have obviously given some thought to their anatomy and musculature. :)

Thank you! I try! ^^
I want to make believable fantasy species for this story. I have not made the full file on naga anatomy yet, but I have done it for other species (merpeople and centaurs) :)

'Believable fantasy.' Those two words sound like they would never fit side by side, but they somehow go fine in this context. :) I'll be sure to check out the others. Keep up the fire! :iconhappygrinneplz:

I was always wondering that as well, when drawing Saha. If you think about it, it's also impossible to move like that, because the entire upper body weight comes down to the part they 'stand' upon.
For the rest of the tail to push all that gathered weight is impossible. :iconamgplz:
And Saha's clothing is everything but build on this!
It's time to do her over.

Thank you.
and nicely drawn.

Maybe they have lighter bones on the top half or something..? I'm not sure how it can work for them either.
To me it makes sense as a threatening posture but not as a resting or moving pose...

Anyways it requires muscles that my characters don't have XD

Standing in the pose is possible but movement isn't.
Afterall snakes are almost one big muscle.
Besides threatening the only reasons why snakes push themself up is to reach for something. But really you always make your character's so interesting, without any complicated clothing design.
Am I a terrible person for thinking about how perfect they'd be for roleplay? xD
